Lords of the Fallen 2 Is In Development, Targeting a 2026 Release on PS5

To have a follow up game developed and ready to go in three years is relatively unusual in the industry nowadays. Kudos if they can hit that target.

Awesome! Even though I’m yet to play the 2023 Lords of the Fallen I have it in the backlog and look forward to playing it. Having watched a fair few reviews, it looks a genuinely good dark fantasy souls-like, so I’m happy it sold well enough to warrant a sequel.

I've given up on it, the umbral asepct is overused and makes it a tiresome experience. The aesthetic is great, some of the bosses too, but the 100% accuracy projectiles and ceaseless mobs, that tether ruthlessly are just back breaking work for declining payoff. All of these pain points compounded multiplacatively in Umbral, hence my point. I literally tried to finish this last weekend and in a moment of clarity said, 'why am I doing this!?'.

Excellent game, one of the few souls likes that I’ve done multiple play throughs in one go (without taking a long hiatus in between). Certainly had its issues with encounter design but overall really fun and just superb world design

This must be fake news, everyone knows you can't make a good game in 3 years anymore.
It has to be dragged out to 5 or 6 at least.

The 2023 game is straight up bad.

I understand you can make some time savings on development by using some of the previous game as a base but seeing as the previous game is not particularly good and they're hurtling through development this is either getting massively delayed or will be awful

Just started recently, really enjoying it so far. I play most of these games co-op with a friend and the Quality of Life of not having to reconnect every section has been such a game changer.

The new Lords of the Fallen is one of the best Soulsclones ever made imo, I don't remember feeling that same sense of vulnerability in any other game since Demon's Souls first came out. Been hoping for news of an expansion but this is even better. Can't wait.

@ztpayne7 true that, I'm not gonna play solo so the host only save progress doesn't bother me.
I want to ask though, is your co-op gameplay stable? Me and my friend (europe & canada) are both on fibre but I get so much clipping and slight delays it's weird.

Wasn't Lords of the Fallen 2023 originally supposed to be a sequel to Lords of the Fallen 2014?

Its not a good look - starting work on a sequel whilst the original game still is in a bad way.

I kept the original on my wishlist a long time as I really like Soulslikes, each time reading the patch notes and reactions only to find out performance was still broken - and worse, apologists were still trying to push "I never had a problem". I finally gave up at 1.50.

I never had any issues with the performance on PS5. I play solely on performance mode. It ran perfectly smooth for me. Maybe a few drops in FPS in high traffic areas but otherwise totally perfect. Never tried graphics mode. Not sure why anyone would when these games require percise movement. Honestly enjoyed it more than Elden Ring and I platinumed both.

@Rich33 So have you actually played it or did you just have it on your wishlist until 1.50? And "I have never had a problem" is kinda true in my experience. The few things that I had a "small" issue with was fixed by all patches released. Works great for me on my PS5!

@MKD88 Same experience for me, nothing to really complain about here either.

Both Lords of the Fallen were stinkers honestly, though it's ironic that the 2014 version has a higher rating (3.93) on the PSN store than the 2023 one (3.69) and let's not pretend that 3.7 is a good score or anything...if they really deliver a sequel that fast, it will be like Dragon Age 2 where every asset is reused to death and will most likely feel rushed.

So now they're going to churn out Turd #3, outstanding. Does the world really even need ANOTHER mediocre Souls-like? I mean, why don't they just go all-in on a live service looter-shooter while they're at it.

Still need to finish the first game. I like it but it does feel like its made by people who know what a Souls game is but don't actually understand what a Soul game is, its not super hard but it can be super annoying something i feel From games or Lies of P rarely if ever are. Visually its incredible though.

Played on a friends ps5 a couple of patches before 1.50 - it was after the patch that seemed mostly to address performance issues - and framerate was still all over the place, with stuttering issues evident.

Didnt play it after, but kept an eye on reaction to the patch notes on the reddit articles the PS5 news (on console) articles linked to.

I say apologists in this case (which is unusual for me as i understand there are people who cannot see / are not bothered by framerates less than 60 through 30 (person dependant)) due to some of the behaviour i saw on these reddit articles.

I got it back in March and was expecting something like the Surge or Mortal Shell, but it felt much closer to Dark Souls (combat/level design). Absolutely loved it. The NPCs were pretty ropey, but the rest of the game more than made up, for me at least. I can’t remember any significant technical issues

@tangyzesty PSN store rating means very little, i mean Suicide Squad is at 4.05 for instance. Also the big issues with LoF have been fixed something most of the scores don't reflect as they came from launch not months later when the big issues are long gone.

Except that is a score for a game that is considered good. To say it’s a bad score is laughable.

@Rich33 Tried it in performance mode ? I think that will sort out most of your problems to be fair.

@Cherip-the-Ripper that’s weird! We haven’t really had any problems in about 15 hours of play. We’re closer in proximity (Pennsylvania to Florida, both US)

It was in performance mode (tbh i didnt need to see it as he has similar issues with sub 60 as i do, but he did the show and tell thing anyway). He got rid of it soon after - had only just bought it too - thats how i know it was after the big performance patch as he only bought it cheap after/ because of this patch - i would have waited a bit longer, so still hopeful i kept an eye on patch reactions for the next few patches until i think it was 1.50 (whatever the big patch was that added stuff for new playthrough settings).

@Rich33 That's strange, nothing I experience on my PS5 (OG /Discdrive dayone version).
Maybe they released a VRR patch along the way so my TV kicked into 120Hz mode?? I don't know but I have very stable FPS when I play, nothing that distract me graphically when I'm playing the game.

I hope they’re brave and bold enough to call the sequel “Lords of the Fallen”.

Still got this game on the backlog, but was waiting for all the patches to release first. Might as well head back on soon then.

@Zeke68 to be fair when I first started playing this game on my old 4k TV it was a teensy bit choppy but not enough to distract me but when I bought my swanky new 4k TV with vrr,allm etc it was noticibly smoother so maybe the vrr is working its magic in this game. Never had any major issues with this game even though people on these forums insisted I should be having issues. Bring on the sequel.

To do the sequel in 3 years could mean 3 things (at least) - they'll either:

• aim for a shorter or "lesser" game... not likely
• widen the dev team by a ton... my guess is they'll augment it, yes, but not by much.
• or they will use many assets and mechanics from the first title... which both makes sense for a sequel and is not unheard of (think GoW Ragnarok for example). And I'm very OK with that.

Unless anything changes for the worse until launch, I'll be there day 1.

Haven’t played the PS5 version yet since I’m waiting for a deep physical sale. But I want to give it a go eventually 😎😎

@WhiteRabbit so you routinely buy games with user scores that low? If so, kudos to you. Personally I don't touch anything in that neighborhood.

@tangyzesty if it was a game I genuinely wanted to play, I wouldn’t care what others think of it. And scoring is subjective. If you have to rely on other people to make up your own mind, you’re a fool.

I'm the target audience for the original. Big into Soulslikes, run a decent PC and can even play it for free on Gamepass now. Had it Wishlisted for months prior to its launch.

Yet, with all the performance issues and seemingly devisive post-game tinkering/nerfing I've been totally put off ever trying it.

wow that's a good news. I really like the game, I'm ready for my second playthrough after a 3 months break. Apparently it has been improved lot since, so it might be even better game than it was months ago...

Dope, I really enjoyed the first one but it has a lot of issues. Great for a first (re)attempt and it should only be better for LotF2.
